Things you HAVE to do during your time at Southern
Things you HAVE to do during your time at Southern:
1. Take pictures of the school after a heavy snow.
2. Host a seminary party at your apartment/house at least once.
3. Take Dr. Nettles for at least one class.
4. Make Dr. Nettles sing "Trouble in River City" on the last day of class.
5. Play on an intramural team at least once (especially you girls!!). I spent a significant amount of time trying to recruit girls to play intramural sports, but was unsuccessful. At the most successful point, we had 4 girls signed up for intramural basketball.
6. Study at Sunergos Coffee.
7. Have a picnic on the seminary lawn.
8. Support your fellow SBTS musicians (Nick Nye, Chad Lewis) by going to their shows.
9. Ask someone before eating in the cafeteria for the first time, especially if you'll be eating from the grill. I've been in there 2 or 3 times and I still get confused.
10. Walk around the upstairs of Honeycutt and admire the...different...kinds of paintings.
11. Park in Dr. Mohler's spot during off hours at least one time. I did it for about 20 seconds...(ssshhh!)...what a rush!!

Whoa Nikki, livin' life on the edge there!
I'd personally add a 12th: Attend Chapel at least once (I seriously thing some people never go).
With a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for pool!
HA! We've been trying to track you down for sometime, missy. BUSTED!
Love,
The Campus Security
I would add another one also:
12. Sit in the shade of the beautiful giant tree on the west end of the lawn
... oh wait they chopped that one down.
Some blogging Haiku,
To Nikki who writes little:
share your escapades.
Well, I've got a little over half done in three semesters... glad to know I'm making the most out of seminary life. :)
I took some pictures of the campus after the honking-mother of a snowstorm we had around Christmas.. you can check one out at this address:

BTW - Nikki, when are you moving/getting married?
Donna, that picture is great... it takes me back to when I was a college student in the frozen tundra -- I mean, South Dakota.
That picture is crazy! wow!
I have been reading some of your posts and was just curious of a few things...From your postings referring to "hot calvinist guys/girls," what exactly is your definition/beliefs on calvinism...Are you stating a belief in predestination/children that die do not go to heaven/etc.? I am just curious of your standpoints on this...
signed, curious
Another anonymous commentor "that wants to discuss theological questions that were never brought up in the original post in which the commentor comments in". I am really getting sick of these people.
Although this is a good question, I think that we in the blogosphere should refuse to respond to any more anonymous commentors, especially the ones that we know are from the seminary and want to start an argument.
So to all of the anonymous commentors out there I say this: No name, no reply!
i concur with the comment on going to chapel. I was speaking with a Boyce college kid last week and he didn't even know that there were chapel services!
i realize i'm new ... but i have something to add:
Before leaving SBTS one should find a table in the middle of the cafeteria and say loud enough for everyone to hear, "Ugh! I'm 30 and still single!"
I got a great laugh out of it later when one of the friends i was with brought it to my attention that the cafeteria went silent and patrons from the tables surrounding us look on me with pity.
I wasn't talking about myself ... I was telling a story.
WHAT?!? Now that kid has to be just actively ignoring stuff. Seriously. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00, every office on campus is closed, with a sign on the door that says, "Closed for Chapel." Every student gets announcement emails, a newspaper, and a magazine that talk about special chapel events and profile the chapel speakers. Not realizing that we have chapel... that's just crazy.
Well, I've never been to the Southern campus but have always heard that it is a beautiful place. I was a studnet at SWBTS in Fort, Worth. The brown brick there had to grow on me, but I loved it before I left. My wife, Marianne graduated from Golden Gate in Mill Valley, California which has an amazing campus simply because of where it sits. It is one of the most beautiful places on the the planet. You could tear the school down and it was still be gorgeous!!! OK...so, next time we are passing through Kentucky we will stop to see Southern! We are friends of Lorie Kings, by the way. Lorie suggested I check out your blog and some of the others you've listed. I just started a blog! Please check it out and give me your thoughts or advice
:-) It is a work in progress as all blogs are, I guess! Happy Bloging!!!
OK....I just looked at my blog and realize that I don't know how to set it to where my profile shows my blog address! ....and I don't know how to fix that. So, if you want to check out my blog it's address is:

Hello, this is Harvey Brown.
It is so refreshing to hear from people in my generation who are going to seminary instead of the godless institutions where there are just drugs, drugs, drugs and sex, sex, sex.
"Oh God let us be a generation that seeks your face." That is my prayer, and it is a song too.
Keep up the good work on this blog. And for all you ladies, did you know there will be a Girls of Grace conference here in Louisville soon? It will feature Point of Grace, and will have all kinds of info on how to live Godly lives.
Try going to church while attending seminary. You'd be surprised at how many people substitute homework for worshing with the body. There is no substitute.
Dear Harvey Brown,
Drugs Drugs Drugs and sex sex se..found in these godless instituions you mentioned modernly speaking is probably where we would find Jesus walking around campus meeting students or playing pool sharing Life and Truth to His treasured Lost that are to be found. Guess, I would have to take the godless out of the godless instituions because there are believers on those sex drugs and rock and roll campuses....indeed that is so refreshing to hear peple from my generation going to the DARK HARD places while carrying the light of Christ and spreading His aroma wherever they go. I say this in the most humble loving way. BTY Niki I love you chik...send us some info about your wedding!!1 If you need a helper let a sista know!!
But don't you feel that in these last days God is calling his children into the ark of safety, getting ready in this eve of destruction to sail out of this cruel world?
We are still reaching the world like never before through media. We go to the Eminem fan and give him some DC Talk or Twila Paris to listen to, is just one simple example. But don't you think God is calling us into that ark, instead of leaving us out there amidst all that sin and unbelief?
This is Harvey Brown.
I'm not sure how to respond to you Rabby because it looks like your a rabbit so maybe you're a prank. I'm new to the group so maybe everybody has fun with you and doesn't take the posts too seriously. So I apologize if I come off sounding like I don't get the joke.
But I think when you talk about banjos and "ol' Hank" and those kinds of songs, it's dangerous. We want to present the gospel to the world in a way that they can understand, that is pleasing to their ear and doesn't make the gospel sound fuddy duddy.
It's okay to praise Him with song in whatever fashion when your alone in your prayer closet, but to the world we have a responsibility to minister. They are used to modern sounds and the best production and stage lighting.
That's why I like passing out sheets that tell you what Christian artists to buy depending on your style. Like if you like Britney Spears you can buy Sandi Patty and if you like the U2 you can buy Plus One. It presents the gospel in a way that is cutting edge. Paul said he became all things to all men, so we should do the same. We don't want to present music that isn't cool and won't be understood by the modern man.
i like yr top 12 list or however many numbers it is
funny how the comments here, don't reflect the post...
maybe i'm missin somethin....
Your not missing anything. Some people, I won't mention, like to play mind games and causing blog chaos.
for some real cutting-edge Christian music, refer back to #4 on the original post and ask Dr. Nettles to perform "Trouble in River City" That's some cutting edge stuff!
Hello, this is Harvey Brown.
You don't think they are as cutting edge as Britney Spears and The U2? What I mean is, they appeal to the kids. They have that top-notch production and they have the look. Not to mention they are very talented -- much more so than most of what this world has to offer. And of course, the lyrics are wholesome.
