Late Night Ramblings and Questions

I arrived back in Louisville late tonight. I should just go to bed, but I want to blog for a bit. The problem is that it's too late for me to think of anything clever to blog about. So here are some late night ramblings and questions:

1. Why doesn't blogger's spell check recogize the word "blog?"
2. I was greeted tonight with a stack of returned "Save-the-Date" cards. I am really annoyed.
3. I will be flying in a really small plane at the end of the month (3 seater, I think) and am scared about it. I'm scared that I'll barf. I HATE barfing. I drove myself to the ER a couple of years ago because I vomited 3x in a few hours.
4. What are we supposed to wear for engagement pictures?
5. I wonder what it will be like physically when I die.
6. I have the COOLEST (and hottest) fiance in the world. I love him so much!
7. I'm so excited that Eric Graf is doing our wedding pictures.
8. I wonder if I'll ever be really good at playing the guitar.
9. My throat is itching.
10. I think I'll go to bed now.

I think you should wear a fluffy little puppy costume for your engagement pictures. That would be so adorable!

RE: Engagement pics - from what I've seen, it's like dressy casual but it depends on the couple (I mean, the puppy costumes COULD work...um...). :) I saw a book in the bookstore a few years ago that lined out every little detail in post-engagement to wedding day planning... if you want the "official" answer, you may think about snooping around Borders.

RE: motion sickness - Drammamine is my best friend. Also, it helps you sleep on the plane so it goes faster. However, beware - Dr. Parker told us in lecture a couple of weeks ago that you can overdose on Drammamine and it can result in hallucinogenic spells and psychotic behavior.. I mean, there IS no bad side to this! :)

I have also wondered what it feels like to die. Unfortunately, nobody ever lives to tell about it, so we can only guess. Well, I guess in heaven it'll be a hot topic of conversation. "Oh my gosh, wasn't that like the craziest thing you ever lived through?!?!?!"

Too bad none of the disciples thought to ask Jesus about this. Maybe there really isn't much to tell.

How about continuously asking someone who's on their death bed how they feel? As the beep from the heart monitor slows down, just keep asking, "Okay, what do you feel now?"

Nik,
wear whatever you want in your engagement pics! You could both wear white button down shirts with jeans for example (not what I would do), you wear whatever you want. They're your pics!!

visit my blog is you haven't, because you're missing out!

Nikki, I am sad you had save the date cards returned but if it will make you feel better both ashley and I got two in the mail! Go with Les's advice and wear what you want to wear for your engagement pics...it should reflect the two of you.

Don't know if you have heard but Kennedy broke her little leg :-(

You should each wear denim shirts and tan courderoy pants.

Or dress like an Ice Dancing team. I hear Bert looks great in spandex and lace - just ask Ryan L.

What's going on mentally when you ask about death immediately between comments about your engagement pictures and you fiance?

And who is that random sleeping kid? You can see a smaller sleepyhead on my blog.

I do not want to see Bert in spandex and/or lace, nor do I find within me the most infinitesimal desire to hear Nikki extol the virtues of Bert in spandex and/or lace.

I hope you get caught up on sleep. Congrats on your engagement as well. Just to let you know, the Discerning Reader site is now off the air. It seems there was always an issue with the man who started it and brash statements he has made against Christians. His other site Antithesis let's you in on a little of his issues. I can let you know more links if you'd like...just thought you'd like to know.

Nikki,

You should look at lee and beth wilson's engagement pics. they are so great. Lee is the friend that came with me to the retreat a few years back. He's at Southern now. You should look them up/ they are fabulous and you and beth would be great friends.

here's the link to their pics:

I hope they aren't weirded out about their pics being shared through blogs...

What to wear? Windsuits, right? Or gray sweatpants are always a good choice.

What ARE save-the-date cards? I don't have time for google. Is that like a save-the-whales thing?

Maybe your throat itching is related to your apprehension about flying in a small plane. I know my ears tingle when I think about what it would be like to be trapped under ice in a lake.

oh yeah, and as guitarists, we'll NEVER be as good as we want. If you ever feel "good enough" just listen to Phil Keaggy or Michael Hedges or Tim Reynolds or one of those guys.

It's a great metaphor to our spiritual lives and the never ending desire to be closer to God.

And if you ever don't feel good enough at guitar, just listen to Jason Ramage. That guy sucks. He is one of the world's worst guitar players. However, he is quite passionate when it comes to air guitar.

Save-the-Date cards are usually sent out a year or so before the wedding in order to warn everyone on their invitation list about the upcoming event and it usually just gives a date and location. This way people can "save the date" to make sure they will be able to make it. Everyone also gets a formal invitation closer to the wedding with all the details. (And it only took about three minutes to find this on Google... but I thought it had something to do with saving sex for marriage :) )

And in response to the barfing issue, I'd like to add that in the case of food poisoning, it feels GREAT to barf! Oh, it's one of the best feelings in the world because your stomach feels increasingly worse until it finally hurls, and then you feel fine again... if only for a little while.

Hi Nikki,
I find your blog interesting and like to check it out to read your latest posts. I am wanting to get a family picture made and I keep putting it off because I can't figure out what we should all wear. I found a few portrait tips that have helped me out, maybe it will help you. Thanks Jason! Very informative! And the guitar comment was great, too. I happen to love air guitar; in fact i have a ticket to an air guitar concert in May.

Hello, this is Harvey Brown. I have recently made friends on Lori King's blog.

I saw a concert featuring Point of Grace a few months ago, and they had a great guitarist. I like it that he's using his talents in service of the King, too.
